Missy Elliot

Missy Elliot a.k.a. Melisa Arnette was born July 1, 1971. How did Missy get her start and what albums and singles were (and are) popp’n.

O.K., Supa Dupa Fly (1997) was met with critical acclaim; peaking at number three on the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Hot 100 charts. She reached the top 20 with “Sock it to Me” featuring Da Brat.

I’m not sure, but I hear Timbaland throughout this album. Even “THey Don’t Wanna Fxxx Wit Me”, she calls or mentions Timbaland - several times.

Truly a good “get high” album - just my personal opinion.

She’s got everybody on this album - Busta Rhymes, Da Brat, Genuine and more.

Missy got her start while singing for a group , Sista (which was formerly called Fayze)

With friends La Shawn Shellman, Chonith Coleman, and Radiah Scott. They found themselves singing for a Jodeci member and producer, DeVante Swing. This was while working with Timothy Mosley (Timbaland) and Melvin Barcliff (Magoo). After singing, back stage, at a Jodeci concert, Swing took interest in the group. In an instant, Fayze moved to New York City and was signed to Elektra Records. To sum it up short, Fayze was shelved and Timbaland (with Missy) moved on to produce tracks for SWV, 702, and Aaliya. Timbaland and Missy produced nice tracks for One In A Million (Aaliya) in 1996. One In A Million went double platinum and became successful for Timbaland and Missy.

After working with such artists as Total, Nicole Wray, Destiny’s Child, and Sean “Puffy” Combs, Diddy (Puffy) showed interest in signing Missy - but she decided to sign with Goldmind Inc. with East West Records (which was a division of Elektra Entertainment Group).

At this point, Missy signed on as a solo artist. After coming around other artists such as Gerald Lavert, Keith Sweat, Johnny Gil, Faith Evans and Coko, Missy finally came out with her debut album Supa Dupa Fly. She took the long road to fame, but finally found a solo platform in which to build (with Timbaland as producer, of course)

There are several videos I like - which seemed to further her career. “Get Your Freak On” was popp’n. I’ll provide you with that one. “Work It” is not just good, it’s great. I’ll get that one for you too - and The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly), so fly!
