Jaylah Ji’mya Hickman, known as Doechii, was born August 14, 1998.
Doechii’s third mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal won her a Grammy for Best Rap Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
What’s interesting about Alligator Bites . . . is the Albino Allegator sitting on Doechii’s lap while she faced the camera. Not really understanding why alligator bites do anything at all, I came across an old movie (produced in the 90’s) called ”White Alligator”.
Now, I don’t remember seeing a Black person in this movie, but I do recall an actor commenting on how “the White Alligator never survives the depths of the swamps. The alligators eat the White Alligator before it matures.” Finding an Albino Alligator is a rarity, because they never survive. Alligator bites not only never heal, they become lethal.
Hence the title of Doechii’s mixtape (mixtape?) Alligator Bites Never Heal.
The main track and video from this mixtape (or what I consider an album, not an EP) is “Denial is a River” where Doechii checks her man”s DM and finds he has a wife and upon closer inspection, she finds the wife is a man. This is when Doechii goes through a metamorphosis on becoming the braided (model 10 Bo Derick) woman she is, instead of the college bound young woman she was on The Breakfast Club; where Charlamagne, and Envy, offer Doechii some kind of liquor. Now, Doechii claims, in Alligator Bites Never Heal, that she had given up drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and possibly meat (not sure), but anyway, the Doechii on The Breakfast Club is not the Doechii we found on Tiny Desk. One of them Doechiis must have gotten turned out.; because the new Doechii is angry, self reliant, tough, self assured and would never, ever, take a sip of alcohol from Charlamagne the God - or any other guy. The difference between Doechii on Tiny Desk and Doechii on The Breakfast Club is night and day.
On The Breakfast Club, Doechii explained she was living in a rough side of town, yet was bussed to a different kind of school district. This caused strife in her life since her cousins were going to school in the rough part of town. Therefore, Doechii learned to fight. And as Doechii grew drunker and drunker, we ended up hearing all kinds of sexual and provocative quotes from our “Young Doechii”.
Compare the “Young” Doechii to the smart and wise Doechii on the Apple interview show with Ebro. Night and day. I’ll provide you with “Denial is a River”, the video, Tiny Desk Concert, The Breakfast Club interview, and the Apple interview show with Ebro - which tells us who Doechii is in today’s world.
