Drake was named one of the greatest rappers of all time by Billboard.
After signing with YoungMoney Entertainment, Drake released Thank Me Later (2010), which debuted atop the Billboard 200. After that, Take Care (2011), Nothing Was the Same (2013), Scorpion (2013), Honestly Nevermind (2022), and For All the Dogs (2023) all reached number one in the US.
Drake is among the world’s best selling music artists, with over 200 million units sold.
At the moment, Drake is ranked the number one highest certified digital singles artist by the RIAA.
I didn’t know Drake until I saw a very interesting video called “God’s Plan” - which appears on the Scorpion album (2013). The video was dope. Some rapper giving money to a bunch of needy people. Hell, $20,000 or $40,000 in my pocket would be nice. Guess I’m needy, too - but the introduction or infusion of a religious body was genius. Here is a rapper working through God; which should bring a smile to everyone - church decon or not. Everyone loves money and most people (in the Black community) loves God.
So, here’s a guy who had a brilliant plan to spread money across “Needy USA”. You, just, can’t go wrong with this philosophy.
Now, of course, I had to go down that rabbit hole and, hopefully, discover new gems. What is a Drake, and what’s he all about?
Soon, I discovered “Hotline Bling”, which featured, mainly, Drake in a colorful video discussing what his last girlfriend had lost. And the fact that she needed to come back to him. The female in the video featured Tanisha Scott (a choreographer) who was seen bump’n and grinding to the beat with Drake.
The song could be found on the album, Views (2016), and was so big, I had to hear and see it, again.
Finally, I needed to cross paths with the old and new Drake. The younger one had shaven his whiskers off in a Rick Ross video called “Aston Martin” (2010). He was cool, but there was something different about the new Drake - in a video with Rick Ross, again, called “Money In the Grave” (2019). Here we see Drake had grown his beard and looked a little classier.
Finally, while traveling down the rabbit hole, I found a certain album I had fallen in love with. If You’re Reading This Now It’s Too Late (2015) was awesome. The very first cut in the album, “Legend”, said it all about the New Drake. I’ll provide you with this audio track, last, and give you “Aston Martin”, “Money In the Grave”, “God’s Plan”, then “Hotline Bling” in video format.
